How mechanically inclined are you?
If you can use a screw driver, have a few bucks and have a decent hand shake, you can probably figure this out.
I'll take bypass valve for $100, Alex.
First, get the hose off on the turbo intake.
Spin the turbo, if it doesn't spin - turbo is dead.
If you give it a push and it spins - that's probably not the problem.
The shaft should not move much radially and a little axially is mm k.
The bypass valve:
that is the thing that sits in the 90 degreeish thingy you just removed.
Get a cheap vacuum pump (the one for the brakes is fine) and hook it up to the vac line. When you get a vac on it, the bypass should open and stay open as long as you have a vac. When you remove the vac it should close. If is closes w/ the vac it means it's opening w/ boost pressure.
So you have boost, but it is going into the intake - theough the bypass back into the turbo intake - back into the intake round and round it goes.
Do check all your intercooler lines to make sure you have no cracks (that 90 degree one cracks a lot).
If you don't have a bypass valve in the car (older pre 87ish) you have a cracked hose, bad bypass, bad turbo or something a bit wierd has failed.
If you try this w/o any success, repost w/ findings and someone here will figure it out.
BTW - what year and where are you?
Carl
