I'd exhaust all other possibilities before rebuilding the tranny.
You can inspect the engine mounts. Try to shake the engine, side-to-side, while watching the 2 side mounts. Try to engage the clutch with the brakes locked, watching for the front mount to lift.
Do you have ramps to drive up onto? Get underneath & watch the shift rod while someone works the shifter. There's a coupling between the firewall & the tranny. Make sure the rubber part of that isn't coming apart. Then put it in neutral & push the lever side-to-side. The shift rod should simply twist. If the rod moves side-to-side then there's a shot bushing about 10" forward from the shift lever.
