If you are experiencing jerky clutch engagement and a low or variable engagement point, I would definitely suspect the clutch master. You might try a thorough pressure bleed first. But a rebuild kit is about $10 and the job takes a couple of hours, even the first time.
Once you get the clutch engaging smoothly, I would drain the trans lube and replace with Redline MTL. If the 1st gear whine doesn't go away, don't worry about it. Start to worry when you get the droning whine in the higher gears.
