Since it started and ran before, my first guess would be that it's one of a few things:
- If it's damp under the hood, spark may be going to ground through old spark plug wires or condensation in or around the cap. Try drying out the distributor cap and making sure that there aren't any carbon tracks. You can dry out the spark plug wires with hairspray of some spray cans of stuff marketed for drying out spark plug wires.
- I don't know how long you ran the car before, but there may be sufficient carbon on the spark plug porcelain that the spark just grounds instead of jumping the gap.
- Are you sure that the battery has a full charge.
These are just a few things to look for. I'm sure that a few others will have ideas to supplement these.
