I just did it myself- Posted by IrieTom [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: looks like I'll be taking it off, thanks NM, tsw, Wed, 23 Jun 2004 10:02:06 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I took off my hood to facilitate the removal of the battery <-> starter cable. The bolt-on retainers (one on each side) don't support any weight, so you don't need to worry about hanging on to the hood while removing them.
Don't forget to detach the wiper-washer-fluid hose!
When I replaced it, I aligned it in front of the car with the leading edge of the hood resting on the tops of my feet. Holding it with one hand on the side of the hood and one hand on top, I guided it into position while lifting with one foot. I'm not a particularly big guy- 5'9" and 190lbs and could stand to lose 10-15lbs, so get a helper if you can't comfortably maneuver a 40-lb (my best guess) object.
Come to think of it- you'll probably want a helper your first time just to see how it comes apart and back together. After that, you can decide for yourself if you want to attempt it alone in the future. It's extremely easy with two people.
