Bought a 93 900s in December of last year with 130K miles, recently rebuilt 5 speed gearbox and recent clutch job, but otherwise had been sitting for about one year in the owners driveway. Put a few bucks into it to get it going (starter motor, hose, coolant flush etc.) and complete exhaust just recently including heat shield and o2 sensor. Started running poorly in may, loss of power but would start and idle fine for the most part. Local indy said he didn't know what was wrong with it (swapped out ECU, AMM, checked fuel press. etc) but suspected crank sensor. Needed to fix the leaks at crank so I'd inspect the sensor and aperture disc at same time. Pulled pulley last night and found worst case scenario. The pulley was able to move slightly on shaft before I cracked the bolt, and the bolt came off way easier than it should have (done this job before) that's when I noticed the key-way on the pulley was widened to twice its normal width. And the woodruff key on the crank is shot also, one side is completely ramped. I'm leaning towards the person that last did the job didn't properly torque the crank bolt, play developed and over time got worse. The pulley itself is very new looking with the rubber ring in perfect shape, and the belts were in super shape too. But, I am the new owner of the car and have no recourse I am sure. So, looking for suggestions, I'm still in the black at this point with money put into a car I only paid $1000 for. My indy said it'd be much cheaper to replace the whole motor, rather than tear it apart and replace the crank. I'm not new to saabs and have done just about everything else on them except a motor pull, is it unreasonable to try the job myself, or am I opening a can of worms and should have somebody who knows them better do the job? I appreciate any and all input, thanks.
