APC box differences

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this question, but I'm hoping for some insights based on the following. Car is 82 4 door. Original engine was 8VT w/APC system (initial rollout). Replaced that engine (it died) with an 86 16V turbo (used, only 60K miles, a sweet find). Because of time constraints I successfully retained and adapted the original CIS fuel system, using the original wiring harness and APC system. The stock C900 intercooler was already in place. Boost levels under optimum conditions were the stock psi numbers of 8+. Just recently I added a modified 9000 front mounted intercooler. The boost levels have increased upwards of 10+. Not much, but clearly above what that particular year APC system was designed for. The additional boost psi is obviously because of the more efficient IC cooling the intake charge that much more. So now I'm wondering if the existing 82 APC box is robbing me of even more boost that's waiting to be tapped from this engine. Specifically, if I get an 86 APC box, will there be any difference? If so, will the 82 harness plug connection work with the 86 box? Might I have to cut and resolder the wiring to an 86 connector? And while I'm at it, if I'm upping to an 86 APC box, should I just go for an 88 or above box? Your thoughts and comments are appreciated.
