I own two '88 T's, one manual, one automatic. The auto was my second one (i've had it for only a few months), and I was surprised (and perhaps a little ashamed) to admit that I liked it. Perfect for traffic driving.

Of course, the major drawback to the auto is the freeway driving--4,000 rpm at 75 mph seems insane to me. A good cruise across town leaves us deaf from engine noise. The engine & turbo are rebuilt, good shape, but the tranny is going on 120,000 miles, and I imagine it will go sooner than later.

Question is this: are there any aftermarket or non-saab *auto* trannies that have 4 speeds or better gear ratios? If I must stick with Saab, are there any model years that offer a better gear ratio in 3rd for better highway driving?
