No you don't need anything more then a small block of wood (a 2X4 4" long or so). Jack the car and place it on jack stands on the frame. Then take your Jack and place it under the bottom A arm and jack it up till the block of wood will fit between top A arm and the frame (you might have to trim the wood but it fits). Once it is in let the jack down. Now you can take it apart with no problem. It is Safe and cheep. It is also ez to put back together. I lost count of how many times I have pulled/installed Saab engines/CV joints using this trick. An old Saab guy showed it to me. Good luck.
