The base stock timing is 16 BTDC for the 88 turbo. If it is properly set to the factory spec it is probably OK . . . however:
Bumping the timing to 18 or 19 BTDC might give you some performance gain (particularly at the bottom and mid-range) . . . however it could actually end up reducing your overall boost (detonation under high boost). On a non-modified car it would certainly cause early knock but with the 3 bar FPR your results might differ. Try advancing it slightly(say 18 BTDC) and see what happens (listen for knock and monitor your boost gauge).
If you are really interested in bumping your timing i would suggest you try modifying the vacuum advance/retard module on the distributor.By bending back the stop and allowing for more timing retard under boost you can advance the overall base timing (better low end response) and still get decent boost by avoiding detonation.
