In case you're planning to check all the interlock switches...
In our '89 the low-pressure switch & anti-frost switch would cause the radiator fans to stop.
The only one that left the fans running was the high-temperature switch in the upper radiator hose. Make sure that switch is closed. It opens the circuit when it overheats.
While the wires to that switch are unplugged, run the engine & turn on the AC. Does ONE of those wires get +12v? If so, then the OTHER one should go straight to the compressor. Check it with an ohm-meter.
