Hard parts inside tranny have gone up in price Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] (#112) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SWEDECAR) on Mon, 26 Jul 2004 09:15:37 In Reply to: Yes, pinion bearing failed, can I rebuild this tranny?, EggsnGrits, Mon, 26 Jul 2004 07:32:53 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
It is more and more difficult to rebuild those trannies for a profit or even break even compared to installing a factory rebuild tranny with 1 year 12k miles warranty.
I just noticed that Saab doesn't seem offer rebuild trannies anymore for the 88 and older 900. So you would have to order an 89 and newer, which is actually a little bit stronger transmission. List price is just above $1600.00 for the tranny alone.
If you are planning to have the shop do the whole job, the amount of labor have to be considered between rebuilding or just swap trannies.
If you swap in a rebuild, it will probably end up around $2300.00-2500.00.
The cost to rebuild a tranny used to be around $2000.00 but with price of gears/hardparts going up it can easily be more.
