Yes, you could do it in his driveway; it would take you several hours, depending on experience, rust, etc.
The quickest way would probably be to take from a junker the entire rear suspension as a unit: not only the axle, but the brakes, panhard bar, swaybar, and the lower control arms; leave them all attached to the axle. Exception: maybe leave the rear links on the junker; they're kind of a pain to remove on one side due to gas tank interference.
The procedure is pretty straightforward; sufficient details are in the Bentley manual. If you don't have a Bentley, then, roughly, you'll need to remove the lower shock bolts, then the springs (don't unbolt the lower control arms with the springs in there), then everything else. For speed, cut the brake lines and screw in some sheet metal screws to keep the ends from leaking everywhere.
