89 900 2.0l manual 120k
It's a REAL balljoint sounding clunk when going over bumps. Since I was sure it was I bought a couple of new ones and started taking it apart. However, with the spacer tool in place to take the spring out of the equation I did the balljoint play tests from the manual and there appeared to be none. The lower ball joint has been replaced a while ago if I remember right. The upper is original. I popped out the upper balljoint and it still seems really tight. Since the upper joint wasn't in the picture any more I pushed the lower control arm up and down to see if I could hear something and it sure sounded like the shock was making a small clunking noise. These are the original shocks but they have been working fine. Does it sound reasonable that the shock could make a clunking sound like that? I checked the upper control arm because of other posts that say it comes loose ocassionally but it was in completely tight.
Any suggestions appreciated!
