If you don't have it, get the Bentley manual. It has details.

Replacing the rack is a DIY job, but can be a pain, mostly because everything is usually covered with grease and grime. A trip to the car wash before you start helps, but it's hard to get all of the gunk hosed off.

It can be done with the car on jack stands, though I expect that a lift would be a quite a bit better.

Most of the work uses standard tools. Accessing the PS hose fittings requires flare wrenches and there isn't much room to work. You may need to cut a 16 mm flare wrench down to about 4-5" long to get at one of the fittings (maybe someone else has come up with a better method than I did and you won't need to).

If you're lucky the tie rod ends will come free fairly easily. If not, you may be able to rent a tool to pop them loose from a parts store. The best is a gizmo that pops the tie rod end free by turning a bolt which moves a lever that squeezes the TRE out. A pickle fork tie rod tool will work, but usually trashes the rubber parts and may require quite a bit of whanging. Use some penetrating oil (e.g. PB blaster) before you start.
