Personally,
I'd go for the '93, as this is the last model year for the hardtop C900. Is it black? It may be a Commemorative Edition (Badge on the console). In that case GRAB IT and don't let go. Also, what is the symptom for the bad steering rack? Is it because of lumpy steering? Then it may be just a Intermediate shaft binding issue. Take the car over to Anders at Swedecar or someone that is listed on this site as recommended mechanic and give the car a thorough inspection.
Several reasons why '93 Turbo over the '89 SPG:
- '93 has larger pinion bearings in the tranny, so less likely of tranny failure than '89
- '89 may have automatic seatbelts - nuisance
- '93 has Anti-lock brakes (good idea for rare rainy california days)
- Better resale value
Goodluck,
James from Michigan
