Air Recirculation Solenoid & Vent Control Posted by Justin VanAbrahams [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I just completed a ton of work on my '86 S, including a swap from LH 2.2 to LH 2.4. Everything went smashingly, but the last to-do item is evading me.
The vent controls in the car do not work entirely properly. The core symptom is that once the cabin air vent opening has closed by pressing the recirc switch, it will not re-open again - ever. I must pull the vacuum line off the solenoid. Strangely, while the vent is open, there is an audible vacuum leak at the selector switch; once the vent has closed, the vacuum leak goes away. All the vacuum solenoids in the car test out fine, so the problem is either the selector switch, the recirc solenoid, or wiring or hoses somewhere in the system.
I have replaced the selector switch to no avail, so I'm leaning towards the recirc switch but it still could be some other obscure electrical issue or vacuum hoses. Has anyone else had this happen? I'd like to put the dash back together but don't wanna go through that if the problem is fixable with the dash off. I searched the archives, but didn't find any solutions - just other people with similar issues.
Thoughts?
