Just a guess here, but I'd look to the mechanic as being the problem source. Is he a Saab mechanic? Even if he is, here's what I'm thinking: if the exhaust system fit fine for a week without rattling, then that suggests all the U clamps just need re-tightened. When I installed a stock replacement exhaust on my 900T, I retightened all the bolts more than once over a period of time. I think it's just the nature of that system. A larger pipe diameter means more metal to compress at the clamp fittings.
