Sounds like it has earned every one of its 195k miles honestly. The ignition lock cylinder is pretty sloppy if you can remove the key that way. The cure is a new lock cylinder. My '88 900S was the same way - I could pull the key out when it was running and start the car with other C900 keys.
There's no steering wheel lock on C900s, so don't be concerned about that.
Other than the sloppiness of the ignition lock cylinder, it might also be that the spring that works the reverse lockout has broken or somebody disabled the mechanism.
It's about an hour's work to replace the lock cylinder, not including the time it takes to get a new one from a dealer or a good automotive locksmith.
