A normal alternator will draw more power from the engine when you pull extra electrical power from it. That's normal. But the engine is SUPPOSED to handle this, the AIC valve opens up to maintain a steady idle. Sounds like the AIC valve is dirty, sticking? Maybe the base idle is set wrong so the AIC valve isn't in-range? This is one of the results when someone messes around with the mechanical stop on the throttle-body.
I suppose an alternator going (gone?) bad can cause excessive drag on the engine? But if the system voltage is being controlled properly, I'd be inclined to blame a sticky AIC valve.
