I've heard of plenty of cars catching fire, but it sounds like this one may be explainable.
The fuel lines run along the driver's side of the car - they pass through the firewall and then through what amounts to the bottom of the shock tower before looping up towards the fuel rail. The feed line is one piece from the fuel filter to the fuel rail, so it's pretty unlikely it's causing the problem, but the return line is a piece of rubber hose that connects to the bottom of the fuel pressure regulator and then couples to the plastic return line by the shock tower. It's possible that line has become separated or the rubber has rotted. I'd definitely start there.
That all said, there is a worse possibility which is that something went horribly wrong with the fuel delivery and it flooded out the cat with gas... That would make the cat get very hot (WAY TOO HOT), and melt all your car's wiring... the main wire bundle runs directly over the catalytic converter.
Besides finding the fuel leak/overrun, you're going to need to tear the carpet and center console out of the car and carefully inspect all the wiring under there... There's a good chance it's all fused together, and it may be time for a new c900...
Best of luck...
