First of all I need to thank Pat Price for his instruction write up and also to others who posted pictures and advice on how to get the job done. I would never have had the courage to attempt this without your support. I worked on it for 6 hours on Saturday, 5 hours on Sunday, and 3 hours on Monday. It is a difficult job!!! It strains you physically, mentally, and certainly tests your frustration level. Translating written instructions to implementation is not my strong suit so there was some frustration there. I can't imagine how someone with short arms would ever be able to reach the nut securing the middle of the side spoiler. There were several fasteners that fought me in my efforts to remove them but only one that I had to drill out. I had difficulty re-attaching the headliner to the bows but finally got them. My biggest fear was replacing the feature strip above the back window. At this point the top is completely on so 99.9 % of the work is done. Now you have to staple across your beautiful top and then make screw holes through it to mount the strip. I did manage to get it on and spent a while on the last step. (Walk around the car and drink lots of beer.) Did it come out perfect? NO, nothing ever does when you do it yourself. That is only because you notice every little flaw or oversight as you are doing the work. Is it as good as a professional would have done? Probably not. I did as good as I could do (for having no experience at it) and I am very pleased with the results. I bought my top from convertibletopsonline.com via eBay and I couldn't be any happier with the cut and quality of the top I received. It is the German Happich material and I think I paid around $275 for it. I chose not to replace my entire back window assembly but did replace the canvas piece below the back window. They also provided me with this piece for an additional $25. Oddly enough, this piece is Stayfast material but the difference was not that big of a deal to me.
My overall opinion: It was a huge undertaking but I am very proud that I pulled it off. I believe I could do it in half the time if I were ever to do it again. And YES, I would do it again.
