Sorry I can't help you with any good suggestions but maybe I can make you feel better by telling you that I have been going through this for the last couple of years. It has become an obsession to me to make the car run well again because right now it runs like absolute cr_p. It's driving my wife crazy that I'm holding on to this car.
By the way, it's also an 89 900NA. I have tried too many things to list and am getting a nice supply of spare ignition parts through e-bay. About 6 months ago I replaced the coil (with the integrated ignition amplifier) and last month I tried a 90 ECU (still no change) and just last Sunday won a bid for an ignition computer. If that does not help, I will try to replace the Hall sensor on the crankshaft. If you live in the LA area, I can share some of the extra parts with you for diagnosis. It's a work of love....
By the way, my Saab mechanic has looked at it too a couple of times and replaced some other parts but that did not fix it either. So I can't feel that bad about it.
