I'm assuming you got the hatch open...just take out the inner hatch cover and remove the mechanism from the hatch...you'll see the nuts.
chances are the aluminum or pot metal surfaces have corroded and become encrusted with oxidation. You need to sand the surfaces smooth and coat with synthetic grease and reassemble.
If you still have the mulch in the car and the hatch stuck, you're SOL. You'll have to remove the mulch to get to the rear of the hatch and remove it to open the hatch.
I'll bet this isn't the first time the hatch stuck, is it? Chances are you just put off repairing it and now it's an issue. Don't feel bad...mine is the same way..I need to take it apart and do it so far it's always opened up with a little jiggling. Winter/salt is worse and probably the cause of the problem!
