I would do it and not worry about it. The '90 and '91 SPGs have a slightly more agressive timing curve (different vacuum advance/retard capsule). The standard 900Ts retard to their maximum amount by 4-5psi of boost, whereas the '90-'91 SPGs have a different retard spring in the capsule that generates a more linear retard curve that doesn't pull in all retard at once. Also, the '87-'91s have more boost than standard 900Ts (moreso the '90-'91s).
If your car is in good tune and the air isn't too warm, you may find the 87 works well enough (watch for the boost needle "twitching" at max boost--if you don't see it, then the APC is happily along for the ride while the knock sensor remains quiet). If, however, the APC is working a lot, I'm guessing you can cure it by retarding base timing a degree or two.
