Okay, so I know I'm a little out of season here but I live in the catskills where you don't usually need to use the air. I go to school in Philly though, and the idea of sitting in more Philadelphia traffic without air conditioning in my 84 8v is more than I'd like to bear. It's never worked in this car since I got it in January. Tonight I finally got off my butt to investigate and I found that I'm not seeing any bubbles in the reciever drier glass but when I jumper the low pressure switch at the R/D the compressor immediately kicks on. I touched the pin valve on the upper line coming off the back of the compressor and air whooshed out along with a little bit of greenish yellow oil. This leaves me with a couple of questions: 1 - Does the compressor need to be running for bubbles to be visible in the R/D glass (it wasn't when I looked) in the event that the system is indeed low on R-12. 2-If that's true, how long can i safely leave the compressor jumpered to look for bubbles? 3-How possible is it that it's simply the low pressure switch? I only ask this because there's a sticker under the hood indicating that a black light responsive dye was added in '99 and when I looked last night with a black light I didn't see where any had leaked out of the system. So, long story short, if there's anyone out there who can point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks,
Eric
