Thanks Gorper, I figured I'd snug up the studs until the threads went into the head, at that point they start tightening anyway. I got everything put back together without busting a stud. When you posted that your *new* Wurth studs from Eeuroparts gave you trouble, I sprang for the dealer Saab OEM studs. One interesting difference between the Wurth studs and the dealers studs is that the dealer studs are slightly longer (3-4mm) on the head side. I posted about this but no one said they noticed the same thing. Eeuroparts may have sent me the wrong studs, although they claim the studs were updated. Not so, since the studs that came out of my head match the new Saab OEM ones perfectly.

I'm not sure if any of this matters, but I mention it in case some poor sap who has broken off a stud is wondering what to do. If you want to play it safe I say go the dealer and pay the extra $20, you might save some time.
