James,
This is what I've done, your mechanic will probably have a different approach but here goes......
I've gone and changed the shocks, ball joints and tie rods in a small attempt to narrow this down.
I'm leaning towards the spring seat bush on the top control arm due to the amount of angular change it has to follow when the suspension travel is wide, say, over a speed bump. The frequency and the duration of the noise points to something that has great movement.
The control arm bushes would not tend to make a deep creek, (like that I'm hearing at the moment). Sure, they have high stress but also have small angular change, which in my odd-ball experience of cars, usually results in high pitched, short duration noises, squeaks!
E.g. Door resonates, hinge squeaks.
Well that's my 'oddball' approach to the problem. I hope it doesn't fail me now.
I'll post a follow up when I get the car off the road soon and change them.
Good luck.
Clive
