I do this by gently forcing the front console out far enough to access those 2 top screws. Then I never put them in again (no rattles yet!). And when you remoive/install the plastic front console face, move it to/from the driver's side, not the passenger's (it's not the same either way).
I believe you'll find that the "front" carpet is one-piece (includes driver's & passenger's foot carpet), and that the "rear" carpet is another single piece.
NO dash or knee bolster removal is necessary. Leaks are TERRIBLE to find. Suggestions: (1) make sure the 2 drains which exit in right front wheel well are well-cleared. (2) Make sure the recirculation flap (under hood louvers) is not retaining water. (3) Get black silicone sealer (Ultra Black?) and apply a bead along the lower windshield edge all the way across and up a couple inches each side, under the rubber gasket. (4) If all else fails, remove carpet, have someone spray exterior with water hose while you watch interior to see where it comes from.
Good luck!
