Hey y'all. New to the BB and to Saabs, which is why I'm here.

A few miles away from me, an auction yard is selling a 1992 Saab 900 for $800, as is. Belt is off the A/C, new brake pads are sitting in the rear seat, and the power windows don't work. Owner of the yard says it runs well, the brake pads do stop the car (hasn't looked at their condition), and the manual tranny's fine. Does have a slight exhaust leak... the exhaust itself looks fine, I'm guessing a gasket somewhere is either leaking or gone. 188k miles. I'll ask about the clutch tonight when I take the wife down to see it. As I pointed out the A/C, brakes, and P/W to him, he said he'd take $600 for it. Keys and title are available. Interior needs a *lot* of cleaning, but it appears doable.

Rust-wise (important in NY), the body's got slight surface rust. Nothing major underneath the car, from what I could see. There is significant rot on the right front, on a rail that looks like it runs from the engine compartment out the front bumper.

I'm a Subaru guy... love 'em, but the wife wants something with less rust, less trouble, and doesn't want to go to far to get a good vehicle (which makes my life a lot more difficult to find a rust-free Sube). I don't know much about Saabs... any suggestions? Figure it's worth picking up?
