Hey Ross,
I agree w/JG, that 4-6 sec isn't too long for the lights. I wouldn't be surprised if you saw no change in duration after you flush your fluid. As for the cloverleaf, the long/strong turn is probably exposing the fluid sensor in the cap. Not a big deal. If you need to replace any brake pads soon, pushing the calipers back in will raise the fluid level back up anyway (& it's something to consider before you top up with fresh fluid).
As vsfoxe said, a pressure bleeder makes the job easy. (I borrowed a friend's, but I liked it so much I'm going to buy my own.) It's not necessary for the brakes, but the Bentley manual says it is for the clutch. I recently did brake-&-clutch flushes on both our '85 & '90, & I was astounded by how nasty the clutch fluid was!! The reservoirs in both cars had fluid a bit lighter than what you're describing, so I wasn't expecting the clutch fluid to look any different. Man, was I shocked! (Can you tell?) I used almost two quarts per car.
