i am a newer saab owner. the first time i changed my oil there was a saab filter on her. i didnt use a saab filter myself. i had already picked up my stuff to do the change and had a bosch filter in hand. i used it. i have since changed my oil/filter several times never using a saab one. i have heard that some other cars of various makes are recommended to use oem filters because of a check valve in the filter that keeps the oil from draining from the top end of the motor into the filter itself at shut off. giving better engine protection at start up. is this true? and is this the case with the 16v 900 turbos. i am starting to hear ticking/noise at start up that i havent noticed before.
