Not sure what you mean by ignition amp -- while there is an ignition signal amplifier in earlier cars, I don't think there is one in your '89T.

Do you mean air mass meter? This is the only rebuildable part I can think of that would cause a Check Engine light, though I believe a struggling idle could also cause one by way of the O2 sensor reading a really rich condition. But this idle issue, combined with the fans coming on, could be a dying automatic idle control valve (not a rebuildable part). Also, the occasional stall when coming to a stop could be a bad turbo bypass valve.

The air mass meter can be installed in 5 minutes with no tools; the AIC valve can be installed in 10-15 minutes with 7mm and 10mm wrenches. The bypass valve takes a bit longer because it's somewhat buried beneath various plumbing.
