I've got Delvac 15W-40/M1 10W-30 in one C900 tranny, & Delvac 15W-40/Saab semi-syn 5W-30 in the other. In another month or so I'll be changing both to Rotella Syn 5W-40, as the 15W-40/5W-30 combo was way too stiff last winter (as was the unmixed 10W-30 dino it had before I cleaned/changed it). The 15W-40/10W-30 combo shifted fine last winter, but it was always garaged overnight while the other car never was.
From my A-Rx trials, I'd use that before anything else at this point. However, since you'll have everything apart anyway, it makes sense to clean it out at that time. Unfortunately, I don't have any hose-down recommendations for you.
I know Alex C has been fanatical in his attention to his tranny, but I don't know what he's currently doing. See if you can find an old post of his & shoot him an email. As for short drain-&-fills, I'd probably recommend either Delvac 15W-40 or a similarly dual-rated 10W-30 (I've heard Havoline has one out now). After that, I'd recommend a dual-rated Group III 5W-40.
I can't recommend Redline. One of the local Saab-only garages swears by Redline tranny fluid exclusively, but then told me not to expect anything beyond 120k miles from the best-maintained (i.e., Redline oiled) Saab tranny! Our '85 has 150k miles on dino 10W-30 (now up to 160k on the current mix), & our '90 has 173k miles on dino 10W-30, dino 75 wt gear oil, BG syn Syncro Shift II, & now the Delvac/M1 mix.
