Welcome to the 900 board. One of these days, I'll get a 9K.
Just to be sure, check to see whether the wheel bolts are tight (BTDT - it's embarassing.)
Then, check to see if the tire treads are straight (to rule out a slipped belt) and that the wheels aren't bent. And check the balance of the tires.
Assuming that those are OK, we'll go onto the heavy-duty mechanical things:
First guess is that the shaking is caused by one of the tripod bearings that has disintegrated.
Ask him to jack the car up, use jackstands to support the car (gotta mention that for safety's sake, of course) and see if he can move one of the drive axles up, down, and around right where it goes into the cups on the outside of the transmission. Usually it's the passenger side that develops the problem because the heat from the exhaust downpipe thins the grease and it goes away.
If it moves up, down, and around then, at the very least, he needs to replace the tripod bearing on the drive axle. At worst, he needs to replace the whole drive axle and the cup that goes into the transmission (we call it the "inner driver" on the board, SAAB calls it the "companion flange".)
Next set of guesses are that he has a bad ball joint and/or bad A-arm bushings.
And, of course it could be a combination of any or all of these.
Next guess is that the front motor mount has gone bad.
Tell us more about that bent stabilizer bar.
