You have gone much, much further than you need to. If you're not replacing the ignition *switch*, you don't need to do all of that.
Put the shifter assembly back on and tighten it down.
Start with "To remove ignition lock barrel" on 432-2. Look at figure 8. There is a lighter colored spot on the side of the shifter assembly where the picture shows where to use a punch to knock in the retaining pin. The spot is a plug of a softer material than the rest of the shifter assembly.
Figure 7 is just there to show you the relative position of the pin that you have to kmock in.
