put the trans in 2nd or 4th, then unloosened the clamp. Once the clamp is loose, move the shifter forward and the shafts will seperate. Reinstalling is not that difficult to get the position correct again because there will be a dirt line or rust line to use as a guide of where it was originally hooked up.
