My teenage saab ate my tires!

The outside of my front tiers has worn out very quickly. Especially the right, is right down to the thread, while as new on the inside. The tires are new expensive Michelin Energy tires (now driven 5000 km).I noticed this when checking the tire preassure, which turned out to be ok.
What can be the problem, and what can i do to check and track the problem?
My initial idea was to let a workshop check toe-in and camber. But i think id like to check the basics myself, if possible?
The stearing is a little squeaky, could that be a cause?
cheers
Oskar
