Play in new steering rack 89 SPG

I have replaced the steering rack in my 89 SPG about 3 months ago with a rebuilt unit from what I was told is the best company I cannot remember the name. It seemed to be fine but now I notice that there seems to be some play in the rack. I can move the wheel about 1-3 mm without the wheels turning. I had someone move the wheel in this slack area when I looking down by the fire wall to see the input shaft turning but no movment on the sterring rack control arms. I don't think this is the inner joins on the rack as I would get some vibration from that or feel it when putting the brakes on. I do not et this.
I have had this problem before on another 900 rack....What is the deal? I flushed the system before I put in the new rack...followed all the directions. Why am I getting this play in the rack mechanism.
