Oh boy, could have been me - last weekend I pulled a fast one by fixing a hole on the exhaust side inner driver rubber boot. A small slit developed on a ridge in the peak and valley design past the large clamp which caused grease to fly out whenever the engine hit high speeds. Replacing it was an option, sure, but that would necessitate undoing the upper suspenion to pull the tripod from the ID. Instead, I slipped the boot back enough to remove from the inside as much grease as possible around the hole, then cleaned it thoroughly with solvent and a rag, then applied a "plug" of rubber cement followed by several thick layers of contact cement. And it worked. My fear of continuum "lashback" occured almost immediately after the repair when for some reason the cabin fan stopped working and the left side radiator fan wouldn't engage when the AC was tuned on. Turns out the original circa 1982 cabin fuse popped and the harness connection plug for the AC fan was just loose. Both were fixed in less than 5 minutes. But I think I may also have a small crack on the underside of my exhaust manifold. Could be that my simply being aware of a problem with the intent to fix it caused a shift in the continuum, sort of a pre-emptive shift based on a long history of my addressing problems on this car.
