Tire height does make a difference. it makes a difference in handling, (Lower is better) and your speedo accuracy. I bet the 65's would ride smoother, because there would be slightly more cushion in the sidewalls, I like handling best. I think that the '60's are stock. I have had both 195/60 and 205/50 on my 89 900 convert. I have loved them both. These tires keep the stock diameter but the 205's are wider so they turn out to be the same height (diameter). I think the wider tread makes very little if any difference in handling, unless you widen the rims to match. The 205's were summer only Brigestone RE something or others, which I am sure saved my life at least once when my daughter was learning to drive and there was a bus coming... I loved those tires for more than that. Right now I have some Bridgestone RE950's. If you want some sweet tires that will make your car smile really large, get some of these. They are a very high performance all season tire (Tire rack's highest performance rated all season tire) (Can I say http://www.tirerack.com?). They ride quiet, handle very quick and stick like glue!! MOST IMPORTANT: you gotta tune the tire pressures. 2 psi extra in the rears turned these tires from mushy yuck to OH YEAH! This is true of any tires, but expecially higher performmance tires. Inflate to max and then experiment with wiggle and balance in corners while changing fronts or rears.
Have fun with them! (Bridgestone has a 30 day test ride guaranty, they'll take them back for no reason! (because nobody does...)
