Alex,

I have done this a couple of times since buying my Saab a bunch of years ago. I found that it's actually pretty easy if you have a reasonable work bench. The easiest way is to pull the hub complete with drive shaft off the car and pop the ball joints out on the workbench.

You will need the a-arm spacer blocks to support the spring.

The general order of things is:
Loosen wheel lugs, insert spacer blocks, jack up car and support on stands.
Remove wheels, brake calipers and brake rotors.
Loosen inner CV joint rubber boot clamp and pull boot off trans driver.
Loosen and remove steering tie rod end.
Remove all 4 bolts holding the ball joints to the a-arms.
Pull entire hub and drive shaft off of car.

Now with the hub on the workbench (Clamped into a vice if you have one) you can pop the ball joints off (a couple of good whacks with a hammer usually suffices to break them free) Replace balljoints and reassemble.

You will need to get an alignment afterwards as not all balljoints are the same.
