Well, that's more than I did five years ago when I installed a lifetime guaranteed rebuilt rack. I flushed the old rack in the system several times but still couldn't cure the GM morning sickness. So I replaced the rack and just for grins flushed a quart through the system AFTER replacing the rack. IMHO it helped to get air bubbles out but probably wasn't necessary. I also broke the old plastic reservoir and had to replace it with a junkyard bit...make really sure you CLEAN the junkyard reservoir because it undoubtably has a 1/4" of junk in the sediment in the bottom of the reservoir. Wouldn't hurt to clean YOUR reservoir if it has sediment in it.
If you're really paranoid about crap getting into the new rack..install an in-line filter on the pressure side of the pump. It shouldn't restrict flow appreciably unless it clogs up...in which case you'll know it by the rack not being power assisted properly but it won't hurt the rack.
