My current daily driver has at least 400k on it and has never let me down. But, these are cars that you really have to learn to work on yourself. There just are not that many good Saab mechanics around and most of them work at a dealer somewhere and charge very high rates. Saab just did things differently as far as the way they are put together. No big deal if you are used to them but I would never let an inexperianced wrench go at one of mine. The good news is that there are plenty of cars like mine out here with people driving them that know the cars inside and out. This site is an unbelievable free resourse that you will unlikely find for your Toyota. If it were me I would look for one with the newer five speeds. 1988 and up, I think. Then you'd loose one of the big problem areas. You could always buy and enjoy the car as is and then once you fall in love with it just go ahead and buy a newer tranny as your inevitable back up.
