Carpet questions - board search has incomplete answers

Here's the situation: Maroon interior, 1988 Convertible. Carpet badly faded (looks pink, really), in OK shape (a little wear at drivers heel).
Here's my thinking right now:
1. Remove carpet, clean, dye.
2. Decide whether to keep it or get new carpet.
3. Order a sewn set from World Upholstery if the dye doesn't look good.
Questions:
1. Is it worth the effort to dye the existing carpet?
2. What dye and color is best for Saab maroon carpet restoration? I've seen /heard about Mar-Hyde, SEM, Leatherique. Leatherique doesn't seem to have the right color, and I'm not sure the Mar-Hyde 'deep red' will work (never seen the color in person). SEM seems to have three colors in the range: Napa Red, Burgundy and Firethorn Red. Looks like Napa Red is the Pick?
3. Any tips on applying the dye? I've seen a couple of posts that make a big deal of getting it into the nap of the carpet, but what about fluffing the fibers back out later?
All answers are much appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike
