The way shock mfg's cross-reference applications, I would expect some total travel variation between suppliers. So maybe the PO mounted the wrong shocks or that's as close as Koni gets to OEM. You could look for the part number and see if it's right.
I think the odds of snapping off the lower shock stud are low, and only if you hit the lower travel limit in normal driving would I replace the Koni's. They are very expensive and if you like the ride, I'd say the hell with it and just use bigger spacers to unload the springs wne doing front end work.
