I just replaced the boots on my rack and I looked for any way possible not remove the tie rod ends. I ended up just breaking the nut loose, then removed the tie rod end and marked the nut location with a marker. Then I took the nut off just to make it easier to slide the boot on. After that I just put the nut back on to the mark and then the end and tightened it all back up.
So far I have not noticed and pulling or other alignment problems.
