GM is done "messing" with Saab. Since they own the entire company now, it's called "reforming" in politics. In my opinion, it's called "destruction."
The last news I heard was that in order to make costs, GM Europe was going to eventually have to close down one plant, either the Saab plant in Sweden or an Opel plant in Germany.
I hate to low-temp flame but new Saabs are not what the old ones are; Saab has become "just another" GM brand and does very little distinctive engineering nowadays. Two 9-3s were traded in where I work last week (97ish and 03) and I was neutral about the 97 and highly disappointed with the 03. Too flimsy, too bland and unappealing, and way too much 'stuff' in it, like a Pontiac, full of little buttons and complicated stuff. I saw no particular reason to buy the car aside from the motor and "it looks nice."
Wonderful motor, though. You all know what I'll be driving next year. A wonderful dark blue '92 convertible.
I'm going to have to pay for these remarks somehow. Sorry. I have an opinion and that's it. You asked for it.
The "highest sales ever" mark neglected european deliveries in 1986 so the '86 sales were still higher.
As the ad said in 1993: Keep it in shape because we're not making this shape again.
