Just use compressed air and see what happens. I don't think you can hurt it.
Put a block of wood or piece of plywood between the pistons to catch the piston when it pops out.

As I said, "the" piston. The other one won't come out. In order to get IT out you'll have to put the other piston partially back in and hold it while you hit the caliper with compressed air again. The other one should come out now.

Last ditch process involves doing the same with a grease gun. Not good, works but leaves the caliper/passages filled with grease. You have to scoop out as much grease as you can and blow out the rest and THOROUGHLY clean the caliper with mineral spirits and then brake cleaner. ANY grease left in there will contaminate the brake system and lead to seal failure/leakage. Not necessarily catastrophic but you get to do it over again. I had to use the grease gun once on my 84 900T front calipers when I rebuilt them. The rebuilt calipers worked fine except for the thunk on backing up. I'm convinced the only way to effectively fix the thunk is to put the U-shaped shim on the yoke and spot weld it on to reduce the worn clearance to spec.
