You can expect pretty good fuel economy from a car of this vintage and not a whole lot of power....but, if you get to know it a bit you can wring every bit of torque out of the 128hp engine there is to get. A dog off the line...but pretty good highway performance...even in it's n/a form.
The 16-valve was offered on the S and turbo versions of the 900 from (I think) '85 thru '87 then every 900 recieved the 16 valve. The base models had an 8-valve engine that had less power but some here felt it was a bit more bullet proof than the 16-valve 2.0 liter....kinda like comparing a tank with an armour plated vehicle....either one will shield you pretty well from bullets.
In any case....I'll bet you really will start to enjoy driving it and find yourself reaching for it's keys over the BMW soon.
